Transportation- meaning, types, benefits

Transportation, transport, hindrance, roadway, railway, airway, waterways.
  • Transportation refers to physical movement of goods from one place to another.
  • It helps in removing the hindrance of place in the exchange of goods and services.
  • It creates place utility.
  • The common means of transportation used for trade are roadways, railways, airways, water ways etc.
  • Efficient transportation reduces the cost of production and distribution.
  • It increases variety in consumption which helps to improve standard of living.
  • It facilitates foreign and international trade.
  • It widens market.
  • It provides employment to people.
  • It helps to stabilize price by moving the goods where there is excess supply to where there is scarce.
Transport helps in moving the hindrance of place in the exchange of goods and services.

Classroom interaction procedure
Student response
After the routine classroom practices, the teacher starts the class.
Phase I: Introductory phase
Teacher asks the students that whether there is someone in the class who knows mimicry.
Activity I: Performing mimicry
Teacher gave the selected students a situation to perform.
Mimic the sound of auto rickshaw, aero plane, train and boat.

Teacher asks the other students to identify the sound of each.
Thus there are different modes of transportation.
Teacher then discuss the meaning and modes of transportation using white board.

TRANSPORTATION
It refers to physical movement of goods from one place to another.

Modes of transport
  1. Roadways
  2. Railways
  3. Airways
  4. Water ways


Phase II: Developmental phase
Activity I: Illustration of pictures
Teacher shows the pictures of different modes of transportation and asks them to identify the mode of transport.
Activity II: Group discussion
Teacher divides the class into six groups and selects a leader from each group and gives them the topic for discussion.
Suppose you are a business men dealing with textiles. Do you think that transportation important in your business? Give any five reasons for your answer.

After discussion, teacher asks the students of each group to read their answers. Teachers appreciate the students and discuss the topic using a chart.

Phase III: Concluding phase
Teacher concludes the class by revising the topic, clarifying doubts and asking questions.
